RehaCom 6.4 - Whats New? Part 1.

The last time we told you about new features in the software was when we released version 6.2. Things have moved on quite a lot since then! The newest version 6.4 is packed full of new modules and features. In this article we will tell you a little about our new screening modules.

Screening Modules?

With RehaCom you have the option to purchase a suite of screening modules to use alongside the training modules. The screenings were developed to assist clinicians in choosing the best training module(s) to address a client's cognitive deficits. At the end of each screening, if a deficit is detected, the software will indicate the best training module to use to address it.

The screening modules are not designed to replace a neuropsychological evaluation - rather to support it. We know that sometimes choice can be overwhelming so this will act as your guide. We also know that its important that some deficits are addressed in a particular order. For example, the foundations of attention must be set in order to achieve much progress in other areas. This way, you are given solid advice as to where to begin, and how to progress.

When used at regular intervals, the screening modules can also be used to measure and evaluate progress. The results are plotted against the largest database of aged based norms so you can be assured of reliable data for your reporting.

Four New Screening Modules

We are delighted to include four new screening modules with the latest RehaCom version 6.4

Memory For Words (WOMT)

This screening measures the patient’s ability to memorise and recognise words.
Firstly, the patient is shown two words at the same time and must indicate whether the words are different or identical.
In the second stage, the patient will be shown one word at a time on screen. The patient must indicate whether this is the first time the word has appeared, or whether it has appeared before. This module requires the patient to use their long term memory and recognition methods to complete successfully.

Logical Reasoning (LOGT)

This screening measures the patient’s ability to complete a sequence. It examines if the patient can identify irregularities and is able to draw logical conclusions. Visual material similar to intelligence tests used by Weiss, Cattell, Horn Sturm and Melchers is used.
A visual sequence of four blocks will be displayed on screen. They must complete the sequence correctly by selecting a 5th block from the options available.
This screening is an important part of executive function diagnostics.

Visual Field (VITE)

This screening measures the visual field and fixation accuracy of the patient. In many hospitals, clinics and outpatient facilities, assessment of the visual field is difficult. This module provides them with an accurate tool.
The patient will be asked to focus on a circle in the centre of the screen. They must indicate when they see that circle fill with colour. They must also indicate when a line appears from this circle with another circle on its end. They must not react if there is no circle on the end of the line.
The results can be printed as a visual field map with specific areas of deficit clearly highlighted.

Visual Scanning (ZIHT)

This screening measures the patient’s ability to explore their visual field - specifically their parallel search (at a glance) and serial search (structured exploration).
In the first exercise, the patient will be asked to focus on a blue cross in the centre of the screen. When it disappears a letter will appear elsewhere on the screen. The patient must scan their visual field to find the letter, and indicate what letter they see using the keyboard.
In the second exercise the patient will be shown several letters on screen once the blue cross disappears. They will be asked to look for a particular letter and indicate whether or not it appears on the screen.
The screening will show whether the visual field needs training - which is advised after hemianopia and other visual field defects.

We are sure you will find great value in the new RehaCom screening modules. With this number set to grow in the future we'd love your feedback.
